The sinuses are located behind the cheeks, jaw and the eyebrows. They are actually air passages whose function is to make mucus. This mucus is used to clean the bacteria, and other dirt particles, that can be breathed along with the air you are bringing into your lungs.
In a person’s nose, there are very small hairs called cilia. These keep the dirt from getting in. They also help to keep remove the mucus from the sinuses when there is too much.
