Your Finger Nails Can Tell Your Health May 3, 2009

Do you know that your finger nails can tell a lot about your health? Let us find out how you can tell about your health by just looking at your finger nails.

The nails are present at the end of each finger tip on the dorsal surface.The main function of nail is protection and it also helps for a firm grip for holding articles.It consists of a strong relatively flexible keratinous nail plate originating from the nail matrix. Under the nail plate there is a soft tissue called nail bed.Between the skin and nail plate there is a nail fold or cuticle.Normal healthy nail is slight pink in colour and the surface is convex from side to side.Finger nails grow 1 cm in three months and toe nails take 24 months for the same.

Importance of nails in disease diagnosis:

The colour ,appearance,shape and nature of the nails give some information about the general health and hygiene of a person . Nails are examined as a routine by all doctors to get some clues about underlying diseases. Just looking at nails we can makeout the hygiene of a person.The abnormal nail may be congenital or due to some diseases.The cause for changes in the nail extend from simple reasons to life threatening diseases.Hence the examination by a doctor is essential for diagnosis .Some abnormal findings with probable causes are discussed here for general awareness. An unhealthy lifestyle can lead to obesity, heart disease, low energy level, depression or even skin or hair problems. The words ‘healthy eating’, ‘healthy lifestyle’, ‘fitness’, etc. sound complicated and seem rather difficult to practice in the course of the daily life. However, it is not! You can sneak in healthy habits in your existent lifestyle. The following health tips will help you adopt a healthy lifestyle easily. We will see the major problems that we face in our way to adopt a healthy lifestyle in today’s world. Each problem is then followed by a health tip to tackle it.

Problem 1: Busy lifestyle – no time to eat at home.

Health Tip: Buy whole food. Avoid processed food. Try to stock up frozen salad, nutrient snacks and canned soup at home or in the office refrigerator. Grab one as you rush out!

If you make out-of-station trips, ensure that every time you eat out you give the restaurant tips on how to prepare healthy dish for you. Share your dessert. If you are full, don’t force yourself to finish the plate. (more…)

Human body is like a machine. Correct synchronization of every complex organ in the body is necessary for it to function properly. Just as when a machine malfunctions, you identify which part is malfunctioning by asking the right questions to the user, to know your body better or even to describe your complaints to your physician; you must ask yourself the right health questions.

We have thousands of ailments. To cover all health problems is beyond the scope of this article. Here you will find a list of health questions that you can ask yourself if you are not feeling well, discuss with your doctor during and after the diagnosis and few specific women-health questions. Even a man needs to know his health related queries, as it is important for both the genders to be healthy.

“Health is wealth”- this statement is rightly coined by experts. You however, realize the importance of it only when you lose it. It is not too late even now to wake up and work your way to a healthy lifestyle that would fetch you sweet rewards. A healthy lifestyle would ensure a good quality of life that would let you enjoy each moment and each day of this beautiful world and the life that you are blessed with.

Health can be in simple terms defined as a state of well being, that applies both to your physical as well as mental condition. A healthy mind as we know lives in a healthy body, so your physical health is very important for an overall feeling of well being. The most important thing to being healthy and staying that way is to know what you are eating and drinking. Nutrition and the food that you eat play a major role in deciding your health conditions. Wow, time flies so fast, we have sent 2006 away and we have ushered in 2007. So with the beginning of a new year, are you planning on a great start to a healthy and energetic lifestyle? If you have not think about it, then take a moment to think and reflect over the past year, are you satisfied with your health? Is there anything you feel needs improvements? Do you feel that you should do something about certain areas to get back a great, healthy lifestyle?
